Virtual Guides: Iene and Te
A few months ago a new project came into the study where I'm working at: a virtual app to guide visitors and tourists through a big exposition about the history of the theater. Of course, we needed a couple of likable and relatable characters to officiate as guides for the visitors.
Originally, I was looking for any animal species that best fitted every character, but after a couple of iterations, we settle down for native species. Of course, we had to include recognizable elements related to the art and history of the theater, so we tackle the classic masks of comedy and tragedy, but with a small twist where we reinterpret them as "extroverted" and "introverted" respectively. I picked a Taruca in order to represent the introvert, the shy one, and a Jaguareté for the talkative extroverted one.
After a few come and goes, we decided for this one.
Now the instruments, the Charango and the Erke, had to go, but Iene and Te had to have something to play with while talking, so I was tasked to design some sort of magic staff for them. Also, I had to simplify and stylize more the design to make them easier to model and rig in 3D, so we ended up with this:

I also was tasked with the design or critters that where going to be roaming around, but the feature was deprecated early, so they didn't survived beyond the design phase.

Here're the turn arounds I made for the 3D artists.
